Mukhtar Shariff is a Software Engineer and Tech Entrepreneur based in Seattle, WA. He has worked with some of the most recognizable companies in the world including Microsoft, Starbucks, and T-Mobile. He is also the founder of SNABPI (member of SPN), the largest Somali Professional Networking organization in North America. Most recently he founded and has been hosting the Nomadic Hustle podcast which aims to shed light on Somali success stories across the globe and engage in conversation to enlighten our youth and inspire our communities to grow.

In these senior roles, She has effectively developed diverse recruitment strategy, workforce capablity, promoted staff engagement, championed best practice people management and driven performance improvement. Samira studies law degree and she is CIPD qualified she is an expert employee relations case work, recruitment, talent management and talent acquisition.
Samira is passionate about community work and always pays it forward she is the founder of Somali PN Europe chapter and she sit on board of directors and is Trustee of large UK national charity and is a a member of of UN Women UK.

Abu Bakar Ismail is the Founder of Riyo Reality, a boutique advisory firm that cultivates and advances the strategic business and communication interest of private and public stakeholders across the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
Abu Bakar spent over 18 years supporting his clients raise capital to develop and grow their market share in the Energy, Healthcare, Technology and Education sector. Abu Bakar is also the Co-Founder of SomaliPN, a 5 year old initiative that mentors and connects professionals, entrepreneurs, business owners and students in 6 continents.
Before joining the corporate world, Abu Bakar spent two years working with humanitarian organizations such as UNDP, Save the Children and WHO in East Africa – which greatly influenced his passion for giving back to society and the empowering youths. Abu Bakar is self-educated entrepreneur that speaks English and Arabic, Somali & Swahili. He currently lives in the UAE with his family.

I studied Law at La Trobe University and completed a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Australian National University.
I am a generalist lawyer but my main focus is on criminal, tenancy and civil litigation matters.
I deal with many clients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, particularly my own, the Somali community.
I am passionate about increasing access to justice as well as providing practical community legal education to empower our communities.

My name is Mohamed Mohamud and I’m currently a civil servant working at the Central Criminal Court, Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service which is part of the Ministry of Justice in London, UK. I studied International Politics and I have a keen interest in Development, Conflict Resolution and Human Rights. I’m also the founder and published author of an international platform called Somali Sideways. Somali Sideways is a photo project that is looking to focus on re positioning perceptions of Somalis and the diaspora – a people who often suffer from negative stereotypes. I believe that marginalized groups are portrayed with negative connotations and I think projects such as this will change the misconceptions on how the world views the Somali region.

A young entrepreneur at the age of 17 Sumaya keynan started her Makeup Business & Fashion Line named Siraa which was named after her Mother “Sirad”. She currently works with big makeup brands in New York City. Her goal in life is to show young girls who look like her “You Can Do It Too” Representation Matters.

I have spent most of time in the field promoting social inclusion of young migrant communities in Ireland and Europe. My name is Mulki Suleyman, I am a Senior Project Manager with a Masters in Architecture and a Bachelor of Construction Management. I’ve been working in the construction industry for 15 yrs with a focus on commercial project both in private and public sectors working on Major project around Victoria.
I have always wanted to contribute to the Community at large. My Masters in Architecture focused on post war reconstruction, in the absence of wars in Australia – I decided to get involved in community Projects locally. I am currently managing the design and construction delivery of a few Mosques and Islamic Centres around Melbourne such as AMMSA and Coburg Islamic Centre – Alhamdullilah.
Within my role, I act as a Senior Project Manager for the Client liaising with the government around grant application etc. I have been the spokesperson for the community around design and construction and have seen the impact it has had on these communities. The journey has been soul fulfilling.
Through this process I have started a design and construction firm “Nomadic Studio” and InshAllah we’ll be working full time on more Mosque and Islamic Centre around Australia in the coming years.

Mohammed Artan is a publisher, videographer, student of Islamic discipline and historian.
He was born in Somalia, raised in the Netherlands and, currently lives in England wherein he did his degree in Film & Videography at The University of Northampton, followed by a teaching degree. He taught filming for several years before focusing exclusively on book publishing. He is the founder and managing director of a production company that serves as training and educational platform for film producers. He is also the founder and managing director of Looh Press, a publishing company specialising in Islamic, African, and Somali studies resources.
He studied and continues to study with wide-range of scholars and historians, and his interest intersects with Islamic studies, Islam in East Africa, and ancient East African history. Mohammed Artan is currently translating and annotating an upcoming classical Arabic text al-ilmām bi-akhbār man bi-arḍ al-Ḥabashah min mulūk al-Islām, ‘The Knowledge about Islamic Kingdoms in the Lands of Northeast Africa [Habashah]’, written by the Khaldunian historian Taqī al-Dīn Abū al-‘Abbās Ahmad al-Maqrīzī (764/1364–845/1442), from Mamlūk Cairo. This work vividly describes ethnographic and political history of eight African Muslim Dynasties in the Horn of Africa and their struggle for supremacy against the Amharic Christian Solomonic empire, occurring against the background of the Crusades in the Middle East. The work is first to be published from several Arabic manuscripts, as it critically investigates the established narrative of Christian-Ethiopia as “a beleaguered fortress in the midst of a sea of Islam”.
Aside from his scholarly pursuits, his personal interests include: travelling, reading / promoting reading culture, nature, filming/photography.
He is currently presenting and touring his popular introductory course titled ‘Introduction To Somali History: Scratching the Surface
Dr Samira Hassan

Dr Samira Hassan

General practitioner
Dr Samira Hassan is a General practitioner with a specialist interest in Palliative care, Medical Education and Global Health. She studied at Cardiff University medical school, before completing her GP training in Leicester. Dr. Hassan is also a keen community activist who is impacting change in her community through servant leadership. She is passionate about youth mentorship and raising aspirations in the Somali community. This has led to the birth of the Somali Careers Fair initiative, which began in Leicester but has since spread across several cities in the UK and abroad. Dr. Hassan continues to organise and support many careers fairs for the Somali community in the UK.
She is also one of the founding members of the British Somali Medical Association and serves as Vice president. In that role, she worked on developing the foundation of this young organisation whose mission includes widening access to medical training, peer support and mentorship, professional development, community engagement, health advocacy and health education. Improving access to healthcare services for the somali community and raising health awareness is one of her key priorities.
